HL Mando achieved cumulative production of 50 million units of EPS

EPS (Electric Power Steering) ids a key component of a driving system that turns a vehicle’s direction with a motor. HL Mando has introduced a variety of steering systems since its estabilishment. In the early 90s, Mando has developed Hydraulic Power Steering (HPS) to replace manual steering. Then, in the 2000s, electric drive systems replace hydraulic pressure. ‘Electric Power Steering’ was independently developed in 2003. This was not only the first in Korea, but also the beginning of Mando’s eco frirendly steering business.

EPS began mass production at its Wonju plant in Korea in July 2004 and in May 2022, its  Georgia plant in the US surpassed the production of 50 million units. After the 18 years of successive bases in Korea, China, USA, India and Mexico, HL Mando is currently producing EPS in five countries.

There are also variety of independent developed EPS lines. We have a lineup according to the characteristics of the vehicle, including the first generation column type, the second generation dual pinion type and the rack type. Currently, the main product is a rack type that is ‘R-EPS’. The next generation EPS is a system that integrates the 1st and 2nd generation rack types. The SFA (steering Feedback Actuator) at the top of the vehicle is connected to the steering wheel and the Road Wheel Actuator (RWA) at the bottom of the vehicle is installed between the wheels.

The two products that communicate by signal are collectively called SbW (Steer by Wire). The free mounting advanced driving system (SbW) is scheduled for a World first launch in November. As the era of EV and autonomous driving is wide open, HL Mando is looking forward to the full scale transformation of the steering BU as the first mover along with the full scale installation of SbW.
